This week, we honor the late Dr. Sheila Lewis Ealey. In addition to being a wife, devoted mother of a son harmed by vaccines, and a grandmother, Sheila’s unwavering advocacy for medical freedom and public health policy reform was evident throughout her life. Many may recognize her from the documentary Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe and for her dedicated involvement in various organizations such as the National Autism Association, the Autism Trust, Children’s Health Defense (CHD), and Stand for Health Freedom.
After the release of Vaxxed in 2016, Sheila embarked on a nationwide tour with Polly Tommey, documenting stories of parents whose children were harmed by vaccines, with her primary focus being to spread awareness to prevent other families from experiencing the vaccine-related hardships her family had endured. Tommey praised Sheila as a “force of nature” who motivated others to advocate for children, informed consent, and truth. Tommey also emphasized Sheila’s concern in more recent years for vaccine-injured children transitioning into adulthood—and her relentless pursuit of solutions for them.
One of Sheila’s speeches on that tour—and specifically her comment that a parent of a child with serious vaccine injury could expect lifetime expenses in the range of $1–$5 million—later inspired Catherine to write “The Injection Fraud” and to publish the Family Financial Disclosure Form, the goal of which is to ensure that if one family member chooses vaccination and experiences a vaccine adverse event or death, it will not translate into long-term or permanent financial destruction for the family. The 2022 book by CHD, Profiles of the Vaccine Injured: A Lifetime Price to Pay, features Sheila’s account of her son Temple’s vaccine injury and its financial and other consequences as one of the nine stories profiled.
Beyond her advocacy work, Sheila’s impact extends to the educational realm. She co-founded the Creative Learning Center of Louisiana, focusing on creating tailored homeschool curricula for families with children on the autism spectrum. Her efforts to support parents and children with autism highlighted her compassionate and holistic approach to addressing health and educational challenges.
Sheila leaves a powerful legacy as a leader, warrior, and speaker in the medical freedom movement. As a beacon of strength and courage even in the face of personal adversity, including cancer, her resilience and unwavering faith in God shone through, inspiring those around her to continue the fight for health justice and children’s well-being. Notwithstanding her prominent role in the medical freedom movement, Sheila remained down-to-earth and modest, as exemplified by her acceptance speech for CHD’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022, where she emphasized that her actions were driven by a sense of moral duty: “I do what I do because it’s the right thing to do.”
