“We ask you not to trust us. Instead, view everything published here with a critical eye. Where possible, primary source material is made available for everything we publish: check it; make up your own mind.” ~ UK Column
The independent news organization UK Column was founded in 2006 by former Royal Navy officer and co-editor Brian Gerrish. The organization is funded solely by its followers and remains completely independent of any advertisers, foundations, or political parties. Gerrish and colleague Mike Robinson are regularly joined on their news shows by presenters from around the globe, where alongside news, they feature guests, interviews, testimonies, and analysis. UK Column has amassed a growing and loyal following that stays abreast of the news with regular, well-researched, and diverse news content.
The organization originated in South West England, where local residents sought to address corruption within the Plymouth City Council. Frustrated by the increasing power of government-backed organizations and the political charity Common Purpose, these individuals felt that local media were largely overlooking their concerns. Their investigations revealed a concerning partnership among various groups, including the council and local newspapers, seemingly designed to obscure the truth.
In response, the small group initiated their own publication, launching the Devonport Column newsletter in January 2006. Initially printed in a limited run of 500 copies, the newsletter quickly gained popularity, leading to increased demand. Despite facing intimidation and efforts by local officials to hinder the newsletter’s distribution, the committed team expanded their efforts and raised circulation to 1,500 copies per month, funded by community contributions. As readership grew, the publication transformed into the Plymouth & Devonport Column and then the UK Column. By December 2007, the grassroots initiative had reached a distribution of 75,000.
In 2015, the organization stopped producing hard-copy newsletters while continuing with a strong online presence and various community projects; by that time over one million newsletter copies had been distributed. Currently, UK Column’s resources encompass a website, ebooks, research groups, and forums. They have conducted hundreds of public talks both domestically and internationally, producing thousands of hours of online video presentations, documentaries, and live news programs throughout the week. They are supported by a dedicated core team and outstanding contributors, with their initiatives made possible through the generosity of donors and members who back their mission.
Connect with them across their various online platforms, and be inspired by their consistent progress despite modest origins. If you appreciate their efforts, we kindly ask you to share and support their work.
