Let’s Go to the Movies: Week of March 1, 2021: Lost Horizon (1937)

Lost Horizon is a 1937 American adventure drama fantasy film directed by Frank Capra. The screenplay by Robert Riskin is based on the 1933 novel of the same name by James Hilton, author of Goodbye Mr. Chips.

Although Capra ran into production issues that lead to serious cost overruns, and initially received poor reviews for the movie, Lost Horizon ended up being a classic that was selected in 2016 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
