Does the Heart pump the Blood?

Does the Heart pump the Blood?

"A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh." ~ Ezekiel 36:26

By Catherine Austin Fitts

Heart disease is the leading cause of death globally. When we published our prayer book several years ago, I described it this way:

"Globally, the leading cause of death is heart disease—approximately 7.5 mm deaths a year. Let's call heart disease what it really is—a broken heart. If you break that down in the United States, 611,000 men and women die annually from a broken heart, 16,000 from homicide, and 41,000 from suicide. That is to say that 1674 Americans a day die from a broken heart, 112 from suicide no doubt caused by a broken heart, and 43 from homicide, some or all of which are caused by a broken heart. This means we should be spending at least 40 times as much concern on protecting ourselves and our loved ones from a broken heart as from a violent crime or act…. Consequently, the best thing you can do for your health and your finances today is to nurture your faith, your hope, and your love. Feed and strengthen your heart and the hearts of those around you."

One of the leading causes of broken hearts is the "machine model." That's the model that says we should organize governments, companies, and the economy like a machine, and we should think about humans and our human intelligence like a machine. If you go back 400 years, you can see how the model got started. And if you look around at what is going on in the world, you can see that we are experiencing the death of the machine model. It's not working, which is why the people who are trying to keep it going are reaching for such extreme measures to do so.

So, an important question is "Where are the new models? What can work—and work for all of us?" That brings us back to life—and how life and all living things really exist, create, and connect and do so on a decentralized basis. The new models that are emerging align with life.

Dr. Thomas Cowan is a family doctor who is intensely interested in life and the biophysics of life. In Human Heart, Cosmic Heart: A Doctor's Quest to Understand, Treat, and Prevent Cardiovascular Disease, Cowan starts with Rudolf Steiner's insistence that the heart is not a pump and proceeds to explain why Steiner is correct. (For those who prefer a machine metaphor, Steiner said the heart was more like a hydraulic ram.) Cowan describes how the heart and the circulatory system work with the heart as a vortex creator that makes the electrical charges go.

After laying out the fundamental operation, Cowan returns to your heart, what causes it to weaken and have heart attacks, and what you might do about it. Each person is unique—caring for yourself and your heart is necessarily a personal, spiritual journey that connects with who and what you love and who and what surrounds you.

Proverbs says that the wellsprings of life flow from the heart. One remarkable thing about reading Cowan's books is that the reader is infused with that energetic intelligence—of the wellsprings of life rising and strengthening the heart.

Cowan's book is a recommended source of intelligence and inspiration on staying healthy, and an excellent companion piece to Cowan's Cancer and the New Biology of Water.
