“I have founded a new political party to save and repair our crumbling infrastructure, which has been so severely damaged by our uniparty during the last 20 years.” ~ Arnar Thor Jonsson
Arnar Thor Jonsson is an Icelandic politician, lawyer, and former judge. He served as a district judge and a deputy member of Alþingi, Iceland’s national parliament, from 2021 until 2024, when he resigned to enter the race for the 2024 presidential election (held in June 2024). Jonsson also chaired FSF, an organization focused on sovereignty issues.
Jonsson announced his candidacy for the presidency in January 2024, stepping down from both the Independence Party and his deputy position. During his campaign, he highlighted national sovereignty concerns from a populist perspective, ultimately securing sixth place in the election.
Jonsson recently released a statement about his political movement, the Democracy Party. The excerpt below is from this statement; we encourage you to read the entire piece (included in the links below).
“I have now founded a political movement, the Democracy Party – a movement for self-determination, with the aim of fighting against the trend towards over-governance and mismanagement that is crippling the Icelandic public and Icelandic businesses. We must resist the backward development that showcases the worst sides of politics, renders democracy inactive, destroys civil liberties, and, in fact, creates a new ruling class of experts and technocrats who gain increasing power without being accountable to the voters. The old parties have become like two wings of a flightless bird, part of a system that has ceased to serve the public but instead serves itself, party loyalists, interest groups, and foreign powers.
The Democracy Party is about strengthening democracy, freedom, and self-determination. These new political organizations will be built on honesty and the values that have proven most effective. I am ready to engage in this fight with all the brave and well-meaning people who wish to join me wholeheartedly, with fairness and wisdom as our guiding principles, for our country, Iceland.“
Solari commends Jonsson for courageously spearheading an initiative to unite individuals passionate about freedom and Icelandic sovereignty and invites you to watch his recent interview with Catherine.
