On the third day of the Hang in Stavoren – 2019, we visited Leeuwarden, the capital of Friesland.
The first stop was a surprise. We visited the organ at Grote Kerk in Leeuwarden built by Christian Müller who also built the organ in Haarlem outside of Amsterdam.
Our concert was performed by organ master Theo Jellema. Here is his program.
- A. Corelli – Ciacona in G
- G. A. Homilius – Lieber Gott & Straf mich nicht
- J.S. Bach – Fugue in G
- Clérambault – Récit sur le nasard & basse et dessus de trompette
- J.C. Kittel – Prelude in A
From there we visited the Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics
Then we went to the Friesmuseum for the Rembrandt exhibit celebrating Saskia, Rembrandt’s wife who was from Friesland.
Then we headed into town for a marvelous organic dinner at Restaurant by Us and a presentation by Jan Ott on the Oer Linda book.
This was a fascinating day. It was my first visit to Leeuwarden. I plan to return.
