The mantra Sarvesham Svastir Bhavatu from the Bṛhadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad is one of the most important mantrams of the Hindu religion and has been chanted a myriad of times by countless people over hundreds of years.

The words are sung as a blessing of goodwill and peace for all beings (including animals and plants) and all worlds and elements of creation. Through this mantra, we seek brotherhood with all in infinite empathy and kindness.

Sarvesham Svasti Bhavatu
Sarvesham Shantir Bhavatu
Sarvesham Purnam Bhavatu
Sarvesham Mangalam Bhavatu

This Music of the Week is a cool and modern version of the traditional mantra sung by three spiritual and powerful women—rock star Tina Turner, Christian singer Regula Curti, and Tibetan Buddhist mantra singer Dechen Shak-Dagsay, all three of them living in Switzerland. Tina Turner was raised a Baptist and by her own account had always found strength and solace in prayer, which she continues to this day.

The full text of the Sanskrit peace mantra says:

Let there be happiness in all, let there be peace in all, let there be abundance in all, let there be prosperity in all. May all become happy, may all be free from disease; may all see what is good, may no one suffer. Let me move from non-being to being; let me move from darkness to the Light; let me go from death to immortality. Here is fullness, and there is fullness; from fullness, fullness comes forth. When taking from fullness, fullness remains.
