“He’s a miracle; he’s totally uncontaminated by modern life.” ~ The Simple Life of Noah Dearborn

In the 1999 movie The Simple Life of Noah Dearborn, the compelling Sidney Poitier portrays Noah Dearborn, an aging carpenter who leads a solitary existence in the southern town of Twin Pines, GA, living without electricity and seemingly unaffected by the passage of time.

As a skilled craftsman and farmer, Dearborn cherishes his solitude and enjoys a good reputation within his community. However, when real estate developers set their sights on his property and he rejects their six-figure offer, this quiet man must summon his strength to defend not only his home and way of life but also his mind. Those around him must decide whether they will support him or tolerate the dirty tricks of powerful real estate developers engineering a land grab.

As we are all grappling with or preparing to grapple with the plunder capitalism underway, it is worth thinking about who you can count on as you watch Noah Dearborn navigate the effort to steal his assets.

This thought-provoking film features exceptional performances and a compelling narrative, making it highly recommended viewing.

The full movie can be watched on AppleTV or Prime. In Europe (and possibly elsewhere) it is available on YouTube.
