Cybersecurity – What We Do
Avoid all Windows operating systems.
Use Libre Office or OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office.
Use Thunderbird instead of Microsoft Outlook.
macOS is highly recommended, or load a good Linux desktop distribution like Ubuntu Desktop or Mint on your existing PC hardware.
If you’re using MacOS, make sure your firewall is enabled and you know how to configure it.
Avoid Android-based phones. Use Apple iPhones (iOS) only.
Avoid any Internet browser that uses Google Chromium at its core. This includes Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, and DuckDuckGo. FireFox is our browser of choice. Safari is also recommended.
Serious security flaws have been documented with Arris, Asus, AVM, Edimax, D-Link, Linksys, Netgear, Synology, and TP-Link Internet routers. Make sure your router has all the latest updates. Contact the router’s manufacturer or your Internet service provider for help. You may need a more up-to-date router to be as secure as possible.
The DuckDuckGo search engine isn’t any more private than other popular search engines, despite their claims.
Use ClamXAV Anti-Virus.
Avoid visit questionable websites to avoid viruses and trojans.
Don’t use unsecured public Wi-Fi.
Keep your computer & mobile phone operating systems and applications up-to-date.
